Slightly Off Topic Saturday: DVD Movie Woes

I will warn you up front, this post is going to be a mini rant.

I had been waiting to watch the movie Red Riding Hood so I was excited when I received the DVD in the mail from Netflix. Unfortunately, life got in the way and tonight is the first chance I have had to watch the movie. I put in the DVD and that is when my frustration began. I could not skip any of the previews and commercial messages before the movie. That is AWFUL!

Listen up Hollywood. I am going to clue you in on something that should be obvious to you. This is one of the reasons people pirate your movies. I paid to watch this movie and I am forced to endure this type of treatment. Meanwhile, if I had pirated the movie, I would have been able to start watching it immediately. There is something wrong when the people that pay for your products have a worse experience than those that steal them.

I did a little research, remember Google is your friend, and found an interesting article over at LifeHacker about this very thing. It seems there is a combination of buttons you can press on most DVD player remotes that will allow you to bypass these previews. I have not checked it out myself, I do not think I can handle fast forwarding through all those previews again if it does not work. You can find the article here
